Why do we love to decorate with pumpkins in the fall?

Pumpkins are a great way to add color and warmth in the fall. That bright orange helps the more muted traditional colors of gold, burgundy, and brown just pop to life. It is almost as warm and bright as the fall sunflowers we have all come to adore. I know pumpkins were originally grown for use as food, not decoration, but they just lend so well to brightening up seasonal decor!

Embroidery Hoop Pumpkin Carving

No worries- there is no such thing! These are impressionist and artistic pumpkins – not Jack-O-Lanterns! And that means you don’t have to do any carving. They are so much easier than dealing with “real” pumpkins AND you can use these fabric pumpkins year after year instead of having to toss them out in a few weeks. These should last you a long time.

To make the pumpkin you will need three embroidery hoops. I didn’t have any of these on hand, so I bought them on Amazon! I picked a variety back so I could have a few different sizes to make the arrangement more eye appealing when done. It is always nice to switch things up a bit.

You can also get hoops at your local Dollar Tree. Both are a lot less expensive than your local craft store prices like what I saw at my local Hobby Lobby.

Best Embroidery Hoops

So – I like these that I found on Amazon and have used them a few times:

Caydo 8 pieces bamboo embroidery hoops are made of high-quality natural bamboo. Bamboo is a kind of wood with the best elasticity, which makes it an ideal material for fabric hoops. The product has a smooth surface without burrs and is safe for the human body. It can be used in many fields, such as embroidery, needlecraft, quilting and wall decoration, etc. The list of DIY ideas is almost endless if you look on Pinterest.

While there are mixed reviews for this on Amazon, I have had great luck with them and for the price? I can’t complain. I rarely use these more than once so I am looking at crafting specifically with these, not a repetitive embroidery hoop use. For simply holding a piece of fabric? These have rocked every time.

What kind of fabric should you use for these easy crafts?

I would stay away from flannel shirts, green fabric, or even that old sweater that you want to cut up and remember. Sweater material is simply too thick for this kind of craft.

I like to use scrap fabric from my craft stash or find some great calico that is often in season and on sale at my local JoAnn Fabrics. Fabric fat quarters are the perfect way to get a variety of plaids without spending a lot of money.

Any time I can save money on craft supplies I consider it a great bargain. Another idea? Check your local thrift store for sheets and table cloths that are cut-up-able.

These would also be great ideas for that local craft show – if your area is having them again.

Add a little floral wire or pipe cleaner to the inner hoop as you are assembling it and you have the perfect craft project for your front door!
