I know it is a bold statement: Tasty Fa Mulan Cocktail is Better Than the Movie. We are huge fans of the Disney franchise Mulan and were anxiously awaiting the release of the new live-action movie since March. Covid-19 put a small thorn in our side and delayed the release date a few times until we got the dreaded “indefinite” clause. Then came the news that Disney Plus peeps could score a viewing for just $29.95 if they wanted to see it now, instead of waiting until December for the regular subscribers to get their shot.
Save your money.
I know it cost two million to make and they have to try and recoup some of that income, but the movie had SO MUCH potential! Great cast. Great costumes. Great special effects. Bad script. It could have been so much better – in my humble opinion. What a can of worms this film is! It was always gonna pull in controversy for being another Disney live-action remake, plus, it had the gall to remove the musical elements as well as Mushu entirely! But even further down its pit, now lies a whole movement of political civil unrest. We so sad that there is no Mushu – and we loved him in the animated series. We even had these Our Mulan Movie Mushu Rice Krispy Treats that we whipped up in the past.
Fa Mulan is “the chosen one” now, instead of having to prove herself and has a little sister — and no comedic relief – so it is simply a drama now. Throw in a second antagonist with a witch and it now becomes a women’s empowerment film. I could go on …
That being said, we have a few fun recipes you could make to create your own viewing night if you do want to pony up the premium price and make a family movie night out of it. Instant Pot Cashew Chicken for the Year of the Rat, Pork and Peanut Dragon Noodles, and even our Delicious Asian Chicken Bowl Recipe. If you are the one paying for it – you might want to whip up one of my cocktails – it makes the price a little easier to swallow. It takes less than five minutes to make and is enough for one eight-ounce glass.
Tasty Fa Mulan Cocktail
I always think of a very zen garden with cherry blossoms when I think of Japan, so this Far Mulan cocktail is based off of a Cherry Whisky and blended with apple cider to help create that fall flavor that timed out perfectly with the official release of this movie.

- 3 oz apple cider
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- 1 tbsp Simple Syrup
