Brown Sugar Garlic Chicken for the Slow Cooker
I know chicken is one of the most affordable meats, and on sale all the time. My local Pick ‘n Save often has boneless, skinless chicken breasts on sale for $1.49 a pound. The best part? I can take the packages over to the meat counter and they will slice or dice it for me, for free. That helps when I am canning chicken, making my chicken veggie soup that I can, or even whipping up a batch of meals for the freezer. Keep in mind that Cooking Frozen Chicken in a Crock-Pot May Be Unsafe. The USDA weighs in on the common practice. In fact, its Slow Cooker and Food Safety guidelines state the following outright: “always thaw meat or poultry before putting it into a slow cooker.”
Can you make brown sugar garlic chicken ahead of time?
Now, back to the Brown Sugar Garlic Chicken: this is one of those recipes that you can freeze ahead of time too! Just put all ingredients into a one gallon Ziploc bag, seal and label it. My little tip? I always make at least two of each freezer meal! Why not? You are making the same mess, and then filling your freezer twice as fast. However, this is one recipe that you might want to make three or four of, as it will be requested often!
How long does chicken take to cook in the slow cooker?
If your chicken is thawed, all you have to do is cook on low for approximately 3 hours, until the chicken reaches 165F on a digital thermometer.
Can you overcook chicken in the slow cooker?
Yes, it is possible! If the meat is cooked too long it could end up dry and not juicy and tender. When in doubt, use a lower temperature on your slow cooker when you need a little more time before being able to get back to the meal.
I know I say “slow cooker” or “crock pot” a lot, but this is one you can also make in your Instant Pot. Just use the slow cooker setting and you can rock it out.

You will need:
Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts, I did 4
1 cup Brown Sugar
1/4 cup Sprite
2/3 cup Vinegar
3 cloves smashed and chopped garlic
2 Tablespoon Soy Sauce
1 Teaspoon Black Pepper

- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup sprite
- 2/3 cup vinegar
- 3 garlic cloves, smashed and chopped
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp black pepper
Put all ingredients into a slow cooker.
Set it on high and let cook for 3-4 hours.
