Why do we like to shop at Aldi so much?

One of the main reasons we love to shop at Aldi is because their prices are unbeatable. You can easily feed a family of four for under $10, which is unheard of at most other stores. In addition to their low prices, they also have a great selection of organic and gluten-free options.

Another thing we love about Aldi is its limited selection. Instead of having 400+ different kinds of cereal to choose from, they narrow it down to the 15-20 or so most popular kinds. This makes shopping so much easier because you don’t have to spend time deciding what kind of cereal your family wants or walk through aisles and aisles of things you don’t need to get to what you plan to buy.

In addition to having a limited selection, they also rotate their products regularly. So if there is something you really like and want to stock up on, do it now! Because chances are good that the next time you go back it won’t be there anymore.

I have recently been made aware of the gold bag chicken: honey battered breast tenders! As I sat there with this hot item in my hands and let my brain run through all of the ideas to work with these chicken breasts, I knew that I would have another favorite to rank right up there with Aldi’s red bag chicken.

Kirkwood Honey Battered Breast Tenders Recipe: Honey Lemon Chicken

Yes. we love the red bags of chicken products and their relatively low price but Aldi fans need to know about the amazing Gold Bag Chicken at their local Aldi locations too!

One of my favorite Aldi shopping finds, I know I can rely on all Kirkwood chicken breast fillets being free of any added hormones.

Countless recipe fans will be in love with the recipes that we came up with for them – and today? We will start out with our Honey Lemon Chicken!

You will find yourself running to the closest Aldi to pick up and try something different than our old own bag of RBC classic go-to’s. I don’t know about you, but I can only eat so much Aldi chicken on those delicious Aldi’s brioche buns – and I think fans of the discount grocery chain feel the same way.

The minute I opened this bag for the first time I totally thought of Chinese Food! The little tenders looked like offerings for sweet and sour chicken at our local take-out place that runs $10.00 for one entree. 3 similar meals for our family would run $35 for dinner and I knew I could make it a lot less expensive. I guarantee you that countless recipes fans will find this the perfect addition to their Aldi Bagged Chicken Recipe collection.

What Aldi finds are you going to use:

Aldi Gold Bag Chicken – Honey Battered Breast Tenders – This 48-ounce bag of breaded fillets with rib meat would make enough for the entire family and currently sells for about $6.99. This is one of my favorite new finds on the freezer shelves of the frozen food section.

Honey – is a natural sweetener and enhances the honey-flavored breading of the chicken. It will make a delicious sauce with the lemon and blend better than brown sugar would.

Lemon Juice – Aldi nerds know this is usually in stock and when you see it? Get two bottles!

Cornstarch – This can do so many different things in the kitchen, but we like it for helping thicken a sauce without a nasty aftertaste

Cooked Rice – Even minute rice would work here – it keeps the cost down and the dinner simple.

Stir Fry Vegetables – you can get a bag of these in the freezer section for about two bucks. They add color to your recipe and id the only thing that helps make it a complete meal.

Add it up

Doing a quick calculation, I could currently pick all of those ingredients up any Aldi stores for a rough total of about $12.That is one-third the cost of that fancy, yet yummy, take-out meal.

How do you cook Aldi Gold Bag Chicken?

First of all, these are fully cooked so you really only need to heat them up. The instructions allow for both oven and microwave heating, with the microwave being the faster of the two options.

To bake, you first preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Put a silicone baking mat or piece of parchment paper on your baking sheet and then place the tenders on a single layer on a baking sheet, then cook for 4 minutes, turn, and cook for 4-6 minutes longer until heated through. I find that if I don’t layer the baking sheet first that the chicken tends to stick to the baking sheet.

As for the microwave, the more you do at a time, the longer it will take to cook them.

  • 3 tenders cook 40-50 seconds
  • 6 tenders cook 1 minute to 1 minute 10 seconds
  • 9 tenders cook 1 minute 30 seconds to 1 minute 40 seconds
  • 12 tenders cook 1 minute 40 seconds to 1 minute 50 seconds

I like this option if I just want to heat a few up to dip in honey mustard as an appetizer or something.

How do you store leftover Honey Lemon Chicken?

We wrap it up in plastic wrap or in an airtight container and store it in the fridge. It will keep for a few days, but I like to eat it all within 24 hours if possible. We usually eat this over rice or with noodles, so we use those leftovers as well!

How do you reheat leftovers of this soon-to-be Aldi cult-favorite of any busy mom?

We put it in the microwave on medium power for about a minute and a half, stirring halfway through. If it’s not hot enough when we take it out, we’ll put it back in for another 15-30 seconds. We’ve never had any complaints!

Do I have to use Gold Bag Chicken for this recipe?

In a pinch, you could totally use the red bag chicken nuggets, but I love the smooth batter on each piece of chicken in the gold bag – I just think it makes for a more polished look on your finished dish – kind of turning it from a homemade meal into a restaurant-worthy classic.
