How To Make When you realize how simple they are to make, the amount of money you can save making your own, and not to mention how fresh and delicious they are, you may be hooked on creating your own Homemade Tortilla’s.   They are great for fajitas, sandwich roll ups, or even soft tacos. You can also turn them into sweet treats when you simply spread with butter, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar and toast in the oven for a light dessert.  Slice them into strips with a pizza cutter and saute in a pan with a spritz of nonstick spray for a delicious topping to taco salads, or tortilla soups.  You can freeze, thaw, and reheat them but they are so easy and quick to whip up I like to make mine fresh every time I need them!

You will need:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. of salt

Flip dough onto a floured surface and knead for 2-3 minutes until dough is holding together well and smooths out.

Divide dough into 8 equal pieces and roll into balls

SONY DSC

Allow dough to rest 10 minutes.

Flatten each one with a rolling pin into a thin, round tortilla shape, I find the best way to make a fairly uniform circle is to roll in each direction a few times- if you are looking for perfection you can pick up a tortilla press.

Preheat a well seasoned cast iron skillet over medium heat. Cook  tortillas for 1 minute on each side or just until slightly browned. Serve warm for best taste!
