With Halloween right around the corner, it is time to get out a few of our favorite freak fest films and enjoy the frights of the season. Last year we whipped up a list of The Scariest Movies to watch on Netflix this Halloween. Our favorite is less scary, but great family fun. That is why we whipped up the Hocus Pocus Salem Cocktail! Its Ambrosian Practical Magic is just the ticket if you are like me, and your favorite movie of the bunch is that Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy help bring to life with their brilliant performances.

If you aren’t familiar with the movie Hocus Pocus, After moving to Salem, Mass., teenager Max Dennison (Omri Katz) explores an abandoned house with his sister Dani (Thora Birch) and their new friend, Allison (Vinessa Shaw). After dismissing a story Allison tells as superstitious, Max accidentally frees a coven of evil witches (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy) who used to live in the house. Now, with the help of a magical cat, the kids must steal the witches’ book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal.

We love the movie for so many different reasons, but mainly? The three witches as they learn how to function in this day and age after being gone for such a long time. It also made me fall in love with the black cat – who is just trying to atone for losing his young sister almost four hundred years ago.
