Weekends are downtime for us. Usually we all have Saturday morning off and I like to make something special so we can have a little family moment. This is one of those decadent treats you can make in advance so you aren’t stressing when you have the time to be together as a family. It ties together two normal breakfast treats: French Toast and Waffles! The French Toast Waffle batter can be made in advance so you really only need to heat up the waffle iron and you are ready to rock.

They are fun to eat, VERY inexpensive to make and usually put a smile on someones face in the morning…perfect for those lazy days!

We like to take it further than that…

Once baked in your waffle iron, and cooled on a wire cooling rack, they are simply fun bread and can be used for sandwiches when you cut them down the middle. Try a peanut butter & jelly with sliced bananas…yum! These French Toast Waffles also make for a grat hot fudge sundae! Just use half of one in the bowl, build your hot fudge sundae on top of it. Strawberry Shortcake anyone? Same as the hot fudge sundae, but use freshly macerated strawberries instead of chocolate sauce.

Directions

Preheat the waffle maker and lightly grease with 2 Tbsps of butter. Combine the flour, 1 cup milk, maple syrup, vanilla, and eggs. Pour ½ cup mixture into the waffle maker and cook for 3 minutes. While cooking, mix in a separate bowl the remaining milk and 2 tsps cinnamon. Remove from the waffle maker, and take to the bowl with the cinnamon milk. Dip it and take it back to the waffle maker for 1 additional minute. Repeat the process with the remaining waffle batter. Mix together the remaining cinnamon and sugar. Cover the surface of the waffles with a thin layer of butter and sprinkle the previous mix.

Waffle Tip:

The French Toast Waffle mixture can be storage well sealed for two months in the freezer. This helps you with your meal planning!
