This is a SUPER easy recipe that I think I learned when I was 10. You can get little people to try things when they are a part of creating it AND they see that a lot of the things they like are inside it. Easy Peasy Spanish Rice Recipe
This recipe has only five ingredients. It can’t be simpler than that to make!
Easy Peasy Spanish Rice Ingredients:
- Ground Meat – we prefer ground beef, but you could use ground turkey or chicken.
- Onion – we use yellow as it is less expensive and has a mild flavor.
- Instant rice – it cooks fast and is usually a bargain pantry stock item.
- Tomato soup – it adds body and a rich tomato flavor. It is often on sale at HyVee for $0.49 if you watch the ads.
- Water – this is to help cook the rice and thin out the sauce.
- Cheddar cheese shreds – for a nice cheesy flavor and simple garnish.
How to make Easy Peasy Spanish Rice:
Start by sauteing that onion in a little butter, in the skillet
Add the ground meat and cook through.
Remove half of the meat/onion mix and save for another meal, another night. (maybe mix it with a can of refried beans for taco night or enchiladas?)
Add instant rice
Add the can of tomato soup, and water. Stir and simmer.
This is where you can zip it up a bit if you wish – I like to add a few drops of Tabasco, parsley flakes, and some garlic salt. When it is “thick” you can plate it up and add some freshly grated cheese to the top! Yum!
