No major national holidays occur in August. But, that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to celebrate. Many other August holidays have emerged over the years to give you a reason to make the day a special occasion. Here are four of them to consider. Let the celebrating begin!
Left Hander’s Day (August 13)
Left Hander’s Day was created by Left Hander’s International in August of 1976. It is intended to raise awareness of all of the inconveniences lefties face in a mostly right-handed world.
Righties take for granted how many things in the world (like scissors, desks and even controls for computers and video games) are designed for right-handed use. So, take some time out of your day on August 13 to appreciate the people you know who are left handed.
Relaxation Day (August 15)
Relaxation day is a day completely dedicated to taking things easy. To celebrate, give yourself time to unwind, or to engage in a bit of your favorite hobby or activity. If you’re in need of something to do, consider taking a trip to the spa. Some spas even offer special Relaxation Day deals to help you celebrate the occasion.
National Tell a Joke Day (August 16)
National Tell a Joke Day is all about sharing good jokes and laughter with your friends. Get together with a group of friends and have a joke-telling competition. Or, head over to a comedy club so you can listen to a few jokes yourself.
Ride the Wind Day (August 23)
Ride the Wind Day on August 23rd celebrates the feeling of soaring high above the earth. If you’ve ever considered parachuting or riding a hang glider or parasail, today is the day to do it. Another fun, less extreme way to celebrate riding the wind is to get out and fly a kite. If you’re feeling especially crafty, you can even try making a kite of your own.
These are just a few of many crazy holidays people celebrate in August. To find more, do a quick search. Chances are, you’ll be surprised by what you discover.
