It’s about time: a Marvel Movie dedicated to a strong female role model! As a mother of a tween girl, we do NOT believe that a “man is the plan”. Sadly, that is a lot of Disney classic films and Disney knows it! They made fun of that fact in the latest Wreck it Ralph movie – saying that “Does everyone assume that you need a tall, strong man to rescue you?” – (That was Miss Sarah paraphrasing it, we don’t have the exact quote handy.) So we are UBER excited to see the newest addition> Captain Marvel!
Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ CAPTAIN MARVEL is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom. The film stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Rune Temte, Algenis Perez Soto, Mckenna Grace, with Annette Bening, with Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.
What do I love the most about this movie besides the amazing cast? Women in powerful positions. Women shown as pilots of fighter jets like in this picture here:
What a GREAT message they are sending to young girls across their viewing audience. It’s not just the cute blondes, but women of color too! Screw the plan with the man and let these women show how they can “save the day” themselves.
As a woman who was in the Persian Gulf Conflict (just before Desert Storm) it’s nice to see women in combat, because it wasn’t really an option for us then. I know the military isn’t for everyone but it can be a great option for those who need money to pay for college. I was totally hooked by the GI bill.
I haven’t seen more of the movie than these great clips but have it totally marked on the Google Calendar to get my tickets ASAP! This is one movie I am willing to pay full price for – and heck, I will buy Miss Sarah a ticket too.
Marvel Studios’ CAPTAIN MARVEL is produced by Kevin Feige and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.
