How To Make Catnip Mice

This was something fun I did with my girl scout troop — we made catnip mice for the Humane Society as part of the Pet Patch they were working on. How To Make Catnip Mice is something they now know!

First things first, a pattern. I just kind of winged it. I simply cut out a mouse shape, larger than what we wanted the mice to end up as. I used a fun and whimsical print simply because I had plenty of it in stock, LOL. I also made the tails out of the yarn in my stash that closest matched the fabric.
You need to cut TWO of the pattern out.

Now, put the two pieces together, wrong sides of the fabric out, don’t forget to put the yarn tail inside!

Now, start sewing around the edge…

Tuck in the tail that is hanging out at the nose, before you sew it…

Just make sure that you do not sew all the way around…

This is where I stopped.

The girls turned them inside out (or, should I have said inside right?) . Then they added a few pinches of catnip, some cotton batting and then stitched them shut! It was the first time a sewing needle has been in most of their hands…and they did a great job!

When the mice are done, trim the yarn tails so they are only 2 inches long. It helps keep the cats from accidentally swallowing it or choking.
