This Chocolate Coffee Cake Bread is a combination of coffee cake and a dessert bread, so it is soft and fluffy on the inside and crisp and sugary on the outside.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups flour
- ½ cup chocolate chunks or chips
- 1 egg
- ⅔ cup milk
- 4 tablespoon butter, cut up and 1 tbsp kept separate
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ⅓ cup sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup water
In a small saucepan, bring water, brown sugar and 1 tbsp butter to a low boil. Reduce heat and stir on low until all the brown sugar is dissolved.
Preheat oven to 425. Lightly grease an 8×8 baking dish.
In a bowl combine flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside. In a larger bowl, begin whipping the remaining butter until it is creamy. Add sugar and continue mixing. Add milk and egg to the buttery sugar mixture and add the bowl of dry ingredients to the bowl, mixing the whole time.
Pour the cake batter into the greased baking dish and pour the brown sugar mixture over the top. Sprinkle the batter with the chocolate chunks and place in the oven.
Bake for 25 minutes, checking for doneness and adding 2 minutes cook time if needed.
Enjoy!
{It’s best warm so rip into it like a monkey on a cupcake!}
